Infinity Ward have revealed every game mode coming to the Modern Warfare 2 beta, which includes some classics as well as brand-new modes.

With the reveal of Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer gameplay at the Call of Duty Next event, the devs officially revealed all of the game modes that players will be engaging with in the beta.

Modern Warfare 2’s beta is finally here, as PlayStation players will be able to dig their teeth into the brand-new Call of Duty as of September 16, just a day after the exciting Call of Duty Next event.

A lot of information has been revealed about both Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0, from the brand new battle royale map Al Mazrah, to the inclusion of both Scorestreaks and Killstreaks.

The devs also revealed details about the Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer playlists, which feature some brand-new modes, as well as some classics that players will be expecting.

With that said, let’s get into all of the game modes available in the Modern Warfare 2 beta.

The Modern Warfare 2 beta will feature a variety of maps and game modes, giving the players a chance to get to grips with the new Perk system and Gunsmith.

The Modern Warfare 2 beta will feature Core Maps for 6v6 and Battle Maps for 32v32, each with their own game modes. Here are all of the game modes and corresponding player counts available during the Modern Warfare 2 beta:

Invasion is a brand-new 32v32 deathmatch that follows similar rules to Team Deathmatch but is played on Ground War maps and with AI.

In this mode, vehicles are available and each team will start with AI combatants. Eliminating players will earn the team points, and the team with the most points will win the match once the allotted time is over.

The 6v6 modes include the classics that most Call of Duty players will be familiar with, as well as two brand-new modes, Knockout and Prisoner Rescue.

Knockout is a round-based mode that sees two teams fighting “over a bag of Cash” that’s placed in the middle of the map. The player with the bag in their possession will appear on the map, leaving them exposed. Holding the bag for 60 seconds or eliminating the entire enemy team will win the round.

Prisoner Rescue is also a round-based mode with no respawns and revives enabled. The mode sees two teams with hostages close to their spawn. Each team will attempt to infiltrate the enemy’s territory, take the hostage, and carry them back to the extraction point to gain points.

Carrying a hostage will leave you slowed and unable to prone or climb, but you will get a sweeping radar to see the enemy’s position on picking up a hostage. While the hostage is “impervious to enemy weaponry,” you can still be put down while carrying them, and will only have your secondary weapon for protection.

Teams will also receive points for defending their hostages and preventing extractions, as well as eliminating the enemy team. The team with the most points wins the round.

The Modern Warfare 2 beta will also bring a third-person mode to the game. This mode features 6v6 game modes but in the third-person perspective.

Aiming down sights with your weapon is the only time you will activate a first-person perspective, so watch out for third-person peeking around corners.

That’s all for the modes available to players during the Modern Warfare 2 beta. For more, be sure to check out the upgraded RICOCHET anti-cheat for MW2 and Warzone 2.0.

Here’s an overview of all the Lethal and Tactical equipment at your disposal in the Modern Warfare 2 beta.

The Modern Warfare 2 beta will feature a new set of Tactical and Lethal equipment that players could choose from. Here’s an explanation of all the equipment in Modern Warfare 2’s beta.

The Modern Warfare 2 beta is set to begin on September 16 for those with early access. Whether you’ll be testing the brand-new Call of Duty title early or patiently waiting your turn, you’ll want all the intel possible to get you ready for battle.

Thankfully, the devs have provided a list of all the Lethal and Tactical equipment available in the Modern Warfare 2 beta. Players will notice some old favorites returning as well as some new innovations entering the fold.

Players will have nine options when it comes to selecting Lethal equipment in Modern Warfare 2. Call of Duty classics like the Claymore, C4, and Throwing Knife are up for grabs once more.

However, Infinity Ward also brought a new Lethal to the table called the Drill Charge, which can damage players hiding on the other side of a surface. The Drill Charge will add another layer to the strategy of clearing closed areas in Modern Warfare 2.

Meanwhile, you’ll notice the classic Semtex Grenade has been renamed the Sticky Grenade, and the Proximity Mine is similar to a modern Bouncing Betty.

Once again, players will notice their tried and true favorites like the Stun Grenade, Flash Grenade, and Smoke Grenade. However, this doesn’t mean that classics can’t undergo drastic changes.

Infinity Ward decided to nerf the Heartbeat Sensor Tactical by limiting its use with a battery charge. You’ll have to find the optimal time to use the Heartbeat Sensor. Spamming the equipment will make the battery charge run out and render it useless.

Another important feature you’ll want to take note of is the Smoke Grenade’s ability to prevent automated targeting systems to lock on to you. In addition, you’ll be able to use a weapon one-handed while activating your Stim.

Once we get our hands on the Modern Warfare 2 beta, we’ll be sure to include the unlock levels for each of these Lethal and Tactical pieces of equipment.

Infinity Ward deliver meta-changing movement mechanics in Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2, but can you still slide cancel?

Slide canceling has been a vital movement technique since Modern Warfare launched in 2019, but October 28’s Modern Warfare 2 brings major movement changes. We’re breaking down whether you can slide cancel in Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.

Modern Warfare 2019 brought the slide canceling mechanic to the meta, where players can quickly cancel the slide animation to reset their tactical sprint and break other players’ camera. It’s been one of the most powerful movement techniques ever since, but that’s set to change in Modern Warfare 2.

There have been a ton of rumors surrounding its removal in Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2, and we finally have confirmation after content creators and pros played the games early at the Call of Duty Next reveal event.

Content creators playing at Call of Duty Next confirmed that no, you can’t slide cancel in Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2. You’ll still be able to slide but it’s much more of a commitment as you can’t stop it early, your Operator will continue sliding until the animation is over.

Top Warzone pro Aydan showed off the mechanic during Call of Duty Next, showing that the Operator will just continue to slide, making it more of a high-risk maneuver. JoeWo, sometimes called Warzone’s ‘Movement King,’ tweeted that it’s “all slide no cancel.”

Instead, Infinity Ward have brought back the Dolphin Dive mechanic in Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2. By holding the crouch button, players will quickly leap forward into the prone position. Whether this will become a meta movement mechanic remains to be seen, but it could potentially be used to break cameras.

That’s not the only new movement mechanic either, as players can now hang off a ledge to peek over it, and can even fire their pistol if they have one equipped.

Rumors suggest that slide canceling’s fate isn’t decided once and for all though, as the devs will reportedly use beta feedback to decide its return.

Console Modern Warfare 2 players will be delighted to hear that Infinity Ward have officially confirmed an FOV slider for consoles.

Console Call of Duty players have been desperate to know whether Modern Warfare 2 will feature an FOV slider on PlayStation and Xbox, and a new Infinity Ward blog post has confirmed its arrival.

FOV, short for Field of View, has been a particularly sore point for console Warzone players ever since the game launched back in March 2020. While both Black Ops Cold War and Vanguard feature the slider to crank the setting beyond the default 80, console Warzone players are locked at the default while those on PC can go all the way to 120.

Raven Software explained that FOV couldn’t come to the original Warzone, so players were desperate to see one in both Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2. After the slider was found in the PlayStation beta files, Infinity Ward have finally confirmed its arrival.

With Call of Duty Next over and Modern Warfare 2 revealed, Infinity Ward’s Console Settings blog detailed the “most essential console settings for Modern Warfare II.”

This blog contained everything you’d expect on consoles including Tactical Sprinting, minimap shape, and aim assist, but it also included FOV details in the Graphics section.

“Adjust your Graphics settings to determine graphical fidelity through items like Refresh Rate, Field of View, and Motion Blur,” said the blog, and then they went in-depth on the setting.

After describing that FOV defines “the height and width of the in-game view” to allow players to see more of the surrounding environment, they warned that “increasing the default value of the setting may cause lower frame rates and increase the risk of motion sickness. Adjust your FOV to your personal preferences rather than sliding it to the max.”

So, there’s finally confirmation that FOV will arrive on the console versions of Modern Warfare 2. There was no mention of the console’s different generations either, so should be the same across both the previous and current gens.

However, there’s still no confirmation of whether the FOV slider will also make its way to Warzone 2 and DMZ. These games have been developed alongside Modern Warfare 2 and share the same systems so it’s likely, but we advise keeping your expectations in check until something official is confirmed.
